Jessica returns from down under with a Silver Medal in 2000 Junior Olympics
Jessica Goetz, with help from the Lakewood Elks Lodge 1570, was able to go to Australia and New Zealand as part of the The President's Ambassador Program to represent the United States in the Kiwi Soccer Classic as part of the 2000 Junior Olympics. She returned home July 25, 2000 with a Silver Medal for taking second place in the Under 16 Years age class. There were 6 teams competing and a New Zealand team which was bigger and faster earned the Gold. Jessica said the girls were from all over California, Arizona and Oregon and had never met before boarding the plane, but they bonded fast and turned out to be an excellent team.
Jessica explains that the reason she has a scowl on her face is because it is a down under tradition. You do not smile when you hold both flags of Australia and New Zealand.
In 2007, Jessica became a mother of a baby girl and is living happily in Bullhead City, AZ. Jessica says she has many fond memories of her trip down under and thanks Lakewood Elks 1570 for their support in making her dream come true.
