Darryl Woodvine has been an Elk for about 19 years and 5 years ago his wife Carol, was diagnosed with kidney problems so bad that she has  required regular visits to the hospital for dialysis to sustain her while she waits for a kidney transplant.

Jeff and Erin George are both Elks of Lakewood Lodge #1570, the same lodge as Darryl and Carol. Erin has become a close friend of Carol over the last year. Erin learned of Carol's plight and thru conversations she learned that she was the same blood type as Carol. She indicated she was  interested in checking out the possibility of her being a donor for Carol.  All the blood test indicate that she is a good candidate as a kidney donor.

The surgery was at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Beverley Hills on October 21, 2003 and both are doing well.
